Harvest Roll is Slow Roll Buffalo's annual curated ride, experience, and fundraiser dedicated to exploring and supporting urban farms and food systems in WNY.
We’re partnering with Gardens Buffalo Niagara for our fifth annual Harvest Roll to be held on Urban Farm Day, Saturday August 16, 2025 from 1:00pm - 3:30pm, meet at 12:30
We’ll start from the Nickel Plate at 1500 Clinton Street, Buffalo, NY, 14206 at 1pm for a 15 mile SQUAD-led ride with stops at and Providence Farm Collective’s International Farmers Market, Pelion Outdoor Classroom, and Farmers Pirate Compost. We’ll cap things off with an afterparty including, refreshments, revelry, and a vendor market. Your ticket includes a countertop compost bin!
First we venture to Providence Farm Collective’s (PFC) International Farmers Market on Grant Street. PFC was established in 2019 as a non-profit umbrella organization with a mission of cultivating farmer-led and community-rooted agriculture and food systems to actualize the rights of under-resourced peoples. In 2022, the PFC International Farmers Market got its start. The Market has something for everything with 16 farmer-vendors offering a wide range of locally grown organic produce, culturally appropriate varieties, and standard American staples.
Next stop is the Pelion Outdoor Classroom at City Honors School. Pelion engages over 250 students a week and over 500 visitors annually by providing hands-on lessons in eco-literacy, nutrition, urban agriculture, and neighborhood beautification. Built in 2011 on four vacant lots across from a public school by parents that wanted to reduce blight and encourage students to experience Nature--away from textbooks and tests. Pelion schedules monthly volunteer sessions and a calendar offering trainings, workshops, and other events that are free to the public. Pelion currently has four honeybee hives and actively feeds scores of native pollinators. Visitors are strongly encouraged to avoid wearing perfumes and colognes.
Finally, we head to Farmers Pirates Compost. Farmer Pirates is a Buffalo based worker-owned cooperative dedicated to diverting food scraps from landfills and transforming them into nutrient-rich compost. With partners across WNY, Farmers Pirates aims to build a sustainable community that manages food waste responsibly and empowers local growers to restore and replenish our soils.
All ticketholders will receive samples of the harvest from some of the locations we visit, plus insight and information from the fine folks running behind the scenes.. Additionally, the Blend and Libby’s Lemonade will be providing snacks and refreshments along the way.
15 miles later back at the Nickel Plate, we’ll enjoy an afterparty including food and beverage from their extensive kitchen and vendor market — all located inside the historic Niagara Frontier Food Terminal.
This is event is presented and made possible by the generous support of the Food Policy Council of Buffalo and Erie County in coordination with Gardens Buffalo Niagara.
